Natalie Portman at a Toronto film festivalActress has been named as the new spokesmodel for Parfums Christian Dior.

The 28 year-old signed a deal with the French fashion house to front a new campaign - the first time she has represented a fragrance and cosmetics brand.

“We are extremely excited to have Miss Portman embody our house. She will symbolize with grace the values of luxury and the glamour of Dior,” Claude Martinez, president and chief executive officer of Parfums Christian Dior, said.

It is not yet known which project Natalie - who follows in the footsteps of Sharon Stone, , Jude Law and Monica Bellucci - will be involved in. Despite her striking beauty, Natalie recently admitted she is concerned about losing her looks after seeing so many aging actresses struggle.

“You see people who were stars five years ago and already they’re waning. As actresses approach 40, it starts becoming really, really difficult.”

Sarah Jessica Parker at last night's CFDA awardsSarah Jessica Parker posthumously awarded the late at the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) last night. The Sex and the City 2 actress gave a speech as she honored the British fashion designer, who committed suicide in February, with the Board of Directors Special Tribute Award.

“I don’t think one brief segment of the evening could really illustrate what he meant to the industry or to the people that worked with him or to his family - so it’s a very hard thing to try to be brief and substantive in a matter of two minutes. But I think his work speaks for him more than I could.”

A McQueen runway show then followed, which included a display of the designer’s fashion pieces, leaving some members of the audience in tears.

NyckedMarc Jacobs’ partner is set to launch his own rival fashion line.

The advertising exectutive new label, Nycked - a play on the initials N.Y.C. (New York City) - will launch with a line of women’s swimsuits. The new designer has not consulted Marc on the project and is determined to make it on his own.

“Relationships are hard enough without mixing business into them. I don’t advise mixing the personal and professional,” he explained.

The collection - inspired by the “gritty aesthetic” of New York - will be a collaboration with jewellery designer Jules Kim. The pair both agreed they wanted to get away from traditional poolside collections which often feature florals, palm trees and bright colors.

“We saw an opportunity in the marketplace for something cooler and more downtown. Swim seems to be dominated by a Los Angeles aesthetic and our collection brings a New York attitude to it,” Martone said of the collection.

The pieces will be adorned with sequins, bow, corset lacing and lace in key colours: black, white and red. The brand’s logo is a geometric bat based on a Japanese origami design.

Linda EvangelistaFashion giant Talbots names as the face of their newest campaign.

The 44-year-old supermodel has been hired by the 63-year-old clothing company as it undergoes a re-branding. The mother-of-one was photographed last week by top fashion photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott for a glossy advertising campaign which will be launched in September.

“She possesses this timeless yet spontaneous glamour that’s irresistible in our minds,” said Talbots chief marketing officer Lori Wagner.

Linda, who fronted last year’s Prada Fall campaign and is the current face of L’Oreal Paris cosmetics, recently admitted she puts her make-up on 10 minutes. The beauty has learnt so many tricks during her 30-year career she only takes a few moments to perfect her appearance.

“I did my own make-up this morning and it takes 10 minutes, tops! My best trick is to do it in natural light. I keep all my make-up on a huge mirrored tray and I just take it to whatever window is looking good that day.”

Halle Berry is launching her third new fragrance.

The Oscar-winning beauty has joined forces with cosmetics giant Coty to produce her new “floral” perfume Reveal. The 43-year-old admits she has been surprised by the success of her perfume range so far - her debut scent Halle by Halle Berry was launched last year and Pure Orchid just five months ago - and wanted to expand it further because she loves wearing different fragrances.

“I’ve always wanted to have my own scent. When I was younger, I never wanted to smell like every other girl in class. Even as an adult, I’d mix different perfumes together. Some days it would be great and people would say, ‘Oh, what fragrance is that?’ And I would say, ‘Well, it’s about five different ones!’”

Steve Mormoris, senior vice president of global marketing at Coty, said, “Halle is an actress and a very emotional person - she loves art and beauty, and she’s a great creator. Halle’s fragrances resonate with the consumer much more than we thought. We are double in size.”

Valentino: The Last EmperorValentino believes he owes his fashion career to Jackie Kennedy.

In new movie Valentino: The Last Emperor - a documentary on the style guru’s fashion empire - the hot-headed Italian admits his success was down to president John Kennedy’s stylish wife wearing his clothes in the 60s. The coveted designer - real name Valentino Garavani - said, “She was the lady who made Valentino, and I made hundreds of dresses for her.”

The 78-year-old icon - who stepped down as the fashion house’s creative director two years ago - also admits his favorite creation was the famous black and white gown worn by Julia Roberts when she picked up her Best Actress Oscar in 2001.

“I saw it on TV. If movie stars love your clothes, that’s very important to me.”

According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, the film also highlights Valentino’s eccentric and lavish lifestyle. Shot two years before he left the fashion house in 2008 after 45 years, the fly-on-the-wall film documents the legendary fashion designer’s six luxury homes, 150-foor yacht and five pet pugs. It also features his famous temper - which he admits he doesn’t care fans seeing - because it has made him who he is.
